2008 - The Year In Review

2008 Santa Rosa November Meeting - The November Meeting, held on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 was conducted at the beautiful Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. The topic for the Educational Seminar "Habitat Management on Golf Courses" was presented by Larry Livingston, CGCS, from Troon Golf, and Ron Prescott, of Glenlakes Golf Club.     [more info]

2008 SuperPro Tournament - The 2008 Superpro was played at The Golf Club of the Wharf in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and great fun was had by all! To begin the day, all players were treated to a box lunch provided courtesy of Bayer Environmental Science. Drinks were sponsored by Dow AgroScience and tournament favors were sponsored by Syngenta and Harrell's, Inc. Golf carts for the event were sponsored by E-Z Go Textron.

After all the teams finished, the winning team (Low Gross) was from Osceola. The winning team members were: Eddie Daigle, Osceola Golf Club; Adrian Stills, Osceola Golf Club; Jim Frederick, Stovall & Company.. 2008 Hidden Creek July Meeting - The July Meeting held at Hidden Creek Golf Club was a great success from start to finish. The Educational Session was entitled "Managing Your Nutrient Budget - Facing the Challenge of Rising Fertilizer Prices" and was presented by Dr. Jason Dettman-Kruse. From the University of Florida in Gainesville, Dr. Dettman-Kruse's presentation was well received, much appreciated and very timely. He identified many of the reasons for rising fertilizer prices, and talked about controlled release fertilizer technologies and how fertilizer programs can be adjusted to reduce expenses while maintaining turfgrass quality. After the meeting, most in attendance participated in the golf tournament. A big thank you goes out to our host, Brian Howell, Superintendent at Hidden Creek who provided us with a wonderful location and beautiful golf course to hold this event for the Gulf Coast GCSA Chapter. We also want to extend another thank you to our guest speaker, Dr. Jason Dettman-Kruse

2008 Heron Lakes May Meeting - The May Meeting, hosted by Jeff Cornelson at Heron Lakes Country Club, was a great event. Our speaker, John Edd Thompson, the local meteorologist at Fox 10 News, brought good weather for the golfers to enjoy and a great presentation for all the attendees to enjoy.

2008 Mole Cricket Classic - Everyone had a great time at this year's Mole Cricket Classic at Dothan's Highlands & Magnolia Courses (part of the famous RTJ Golf Trail). The winning team (LOW GROSS) included Judd Lindsey and Barry Sowell of Southern USA Turf, Tim Etheridge of Dothan Country Club and Doug Webb of the Regal Chemical Company, with a winning gross score of 57. The winning team (LOW NET) included Trevor Richardson of Cambrian Ridge Golf Course and Jeff Andrews and David McKnight of Highland Oaks Golf Course with a net score of 49.67. 2008 Annual Meeting - Dr. Bob Carrow and Dr. Clint Waltz, from the University of Georgia, were the guest speakers and addressed BMPs for water conservation on golf courses. Also, there was a vote for this year's officers. It was decided to keep the board intact, the same group that presided over 2007. Just before lunch, our webmaster Rod Jordan unveiled the new website on the big screen, explaining all the exciting new additions that have been added for 2008. Be sure to take advantage of our new website.

2007 SuperPro - As in years past, the 2007 SuperPro Tournament was another outstanding event. The winning team was from Spring Hill College and included Jon Spence, Duke Ankiewicz, Michael Johnson and Robert Palmer. We hope everyone had a great experience and we all certainly look forward to next year's event coming Fall 2008!
