Eastern Zone Meeting
May 6, 2009 - Hosted by Paul Wargo, CGCS, The Eastern Zone Meeting, held at The Eglin Golf Club in Niceville, Florida, was a grand success.
The informative and interesting educational seminar, entitled "Weed Management in Turfgrass," was expertly conducted by Dr. Barry Brecke.
Because managing weeds is one of the biggest challenges that superintendents face today, Dr. Brecke had everyone's attention as he discussed
a multitude of strategies for controlling the most common weeds that plague golf course turf in our area. Barry Brecke, PhD, a decorated weed scientist at the University of Florida,
did a fine job of communicating his strategies, and it was easy to see why he is highly sought after for speaking engagements on this critically important subject matter.
After the meeting, the Gulf Coast GCSA members enjoyed... [more]
Mole Cricket Classic
March 30, 2009 - This year's Mole Cricket Classic was held at the beautiful Lakewood Golf Course in Point Clear, Alabama. Prior to the event, the educational seminar
"How to Make the Most of Water without Spending a Fortune" was presented by Mica Franklin of Aquatrols. After the seminar, event participants were treated to a great lunch.
After lunch, the tournament proper got underway.
This year's tournament winners were Brian Aaron, CGCS, Tim Orton, Mark Cleveland, and Kevin Goolsby with a fine score of 60. Congratulations!

Annual Meeting
January 12, 2009 - As always, the Annual Meeting was the perfect way to kick off the new year for the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America. Held at the University of Florida Milton Campus, the educational seminar focused on managing the nutritional requirements of the Gulf Coast's warm-season and overseeded warm-season grasses. Also, our board members for the new year were voted in. Be sure to see the great pics from the
event.

Name Change
January 15, 2009 - With recent Board approval for an organizational name change for 2009, you will begin to see
that the old Gulf Coast Golf Course Superintendent Association (GCGCSA) will slowly begin a metamorphosis into the Gulf Coast Chapter
of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. On the website, you will note that we will refer to ourselves most often
as the Gulf Coast Chapter or GCC, for short.
This change is a positive one, and is expected to help grow our organization, even as it brings the Gulf Coast Chapter
additional Regional and National exposure.
